"Struggling with FASD" by Wendy Galvin | top
One of our Support Group members, Wendy Galvin, wrote and performed this piece as a song, to be sung to the tune of "The Marvelous Toy" by Tom Paxton. Here are the lyrics:
Struggling with FASD
When I was just a wee little fetusFull of hopes and dreams
My mother went to a bar one night
And gave to me a beer.
I struggled and choked within her womb
Feeling pretty drunk
And when they laid eyes on me
I didn't look so good!
CHORUS:
I went dizzy when I moved
And shook when I stopped
And dropped when I stood still
I never knew just what it was
'Till I ran into Jill and Tom.
The first time that I learned about it
I had a big surprise
For FAE was new to me
And scared me half to death
I first tried one and then the other
Another doctor too. There was
Nothing that they could do
So I was on my own.
CHORUS
The years have gone by too quickly
It seems I haven't changed
But then there is no cure at all
For something called FASD.
We need your help, we need your love
We need your support
To make that nasty FASD
Go flying out the door.
CHORUS
